Description of Work


The Summer Engineering Assistants Program offers students in good academic standing the opportunity to work one summer or consecutive summers as interns in the various fields at the Department of Transportation. Students learn about the work performed at NCDOT and gain valuable exposure. Based on need, there will be internship positions available for those in a variety of majors. Numerous candidates will be selected from this posting for positions statewide. Internship program will begin on May 15th, 2023. 

Assignments available in the following Areas Hydraulics, Locations and Survey, Structures Management, Traffic Safety, Traffic Management, Value Management, Construction (offered in all Divisions) Maintenance (Offered in all Divisions), Transportation Planning, Roadway Design, Rail. 
 
Candidates that are selected are responsible for their own housing and moving expenses.
 
 
Work Session: May 15th through August 11th 2023

  • Must be a currently enrolled student in an associates, bachelors, or masters level program at an accredited institution
  • Completed at least 24 semester hours upon employment
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.3 (based on 4.0 scale)
  • Must demonstrate GPA by attaching a transcript
